NATIONAL RIGHT-TO-CARRY
BILL INTRODUCED
U.S. Representative Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) recently introduced H.R. 4547-a
national Right-to-Carry (RTC) reciprocity bill that would provide national
reciprocity for state carry licensees. The bill would allow any person with
a valid carry permit or license issued by a state to carry a concealed
firearm in any other state if they meet certain criteria. The bill would not
create a federal licensing system; it would simply require the states to
recognize each other's carry permits, just as they recognize drivers'
licenses.

yeah if you look around on packing.org
they have charts detailing which states recip which.
some of it is obviously political, certain states rejecting others carry permits.
much of it is jsut that one states control is tighter than the other's
either way i dont see it as fair to people with permits for all the hoops they have to jump thru-
BUt what will be the deal for vermonters? i guess they will need an actual permit of sorts ?
wow this is odd, they have recip with tons of states

Please be sure to contact your U.S. Representative at (202) 225-3121, and urge him or her to cosponsor and support H.R. 4547!

sorry guys i can't buy this... at best it is another feel good object lesson... why because if you get the various states to grant resiprosity your second amendment doesn't mean anything... all grants are priviledges and the the state can take them away anytime it votes 50% plus 1... rather we should gather at the supreme court to make a ruling on the constitutionality of various gun laws that are in direct opposition to either the people clause or the militia clause of the 2nd... you can't have it both ways either it is a right just like speech & religion or it's a priviledge that is granted by the various states via a tax and license... it's time gun owers stood up like men and exercised their right to keep and bear...

I disagree. Getting national reciprocity would be a big step in regaining our rights.

If gun rights leaders had held out for "Vermont carry or nothing" we wouldn't have 39 states with decent carry laws now...

I'm with Genghis, in this case you very exactly can have it two ways. Building a web of priviledges doesn't mean we all sign something saying "and by accepting this piece of paper I concur that the second amendment on that other piece of paper no longer exists. I agree, that in a good world none of this would be necessary but what a web of reciprocity -will- do is demonstrate to people who believe that guns can cause normal people to become violent that they are wrong. And those are the folks we need.
You and I understand that we already have this right (ethically, if not always legally) and this is the lever we can apply to the minds that -don't- understand that and (more importantly) -don't- vote our way, to change their POV. We get this increment and in a few years we say say "hey, lookee here this patch of road is not covered in blood, how 'bout the ones in -your- neighborhood?". Then we have a small step to stand on when we say "Guess they were wrong about the cpl reciprocity, how 'bout we get more states to adopt -alaska- carry".
Incrementalism is how we've gotten to where we are. It's a political tool that we should use to get to where we want to be. IMHO

well guys if you feel that way run with it , but mark my words what you get as a privilage today will be a felony tommorrow...se what you don't seem, to get is government doesn't work the way you want it to...the bill of rights didn't grant you the right of defense, it recognized it just as it does for speech or religion... privilages are for corporations not free men...legality and lawfull are abitary terms that are made 50%+1... rights are not negociable...

So, if rights are not negotiable, why's it matter what the states pass?

I think of it this way; I have Rights (ethical right with capital R) and rights (legal right subject to the vagaries of our rulers). In the current system I can agitate to change rights and, while we clearly differ, I do think that agitating for this right is a small step toward where we should be.

Are you a member of any groups like jpfo or nra? -Boyd
